Our History
- 1940s
Gib’s RV Superstore has a rich history that dates back to the late 1940s, founded on a commitment to providing quality RVs and excellent customer service. The dealership's origins can be traced to Agnes Smith, who purchased property at 342 North Bay Drive, establishing Smith Trailer Sales. This early business laid the groundwork for what would eventually become Gib’s RV Superstore.
- 1956
After Smith Trailer Sales moved, the property was acquired by Gilbert Abbott, who founded Gib's Trailer Sales. Abbott successfully ran the business at the North Bay Drive location until 1956 when it relocated to its current address at 1845 Ocean Blvd. The dealership initially focused on selling mobile homes, campers, and travel trailers, while also offering repair and service for these units.
- 1971
In 1971, the business was sold to Leon H. Thorne, who continued to build on its success by gradually phasing out mobile homes in favor of focusing on travel trailers and campers. This shift set the stage for the dealership’s transformation into a full-fledged RV dealership.
- 1986
Significant growth came in March 1986 when Leon Thorne sold the business to Edward D. Eckes, who renamed it Gib's RVs Inc. Eckes expanded the dealership’s offerings by introducing motorhomes, broadening the selection of RVs available to customers.
- 1997
The dealership changed hands again in July 1997, when William Leslie and Daniel McCarren took over. They modernized the business and renamed it Gib’s RV Superstore in 2004, reflecting its expanded inventory and commitment to offering a wide range of RVs.
- 2013
In the summer of 2013, Ray and Lisa Larkin, alongside long-time sales manager Bob Schultz, purchased Gib’s RV Superstore. This new leadership brought a renewed focus on customer service and community engagement, ensuring that the dealership remained a trusted name in Coos Bay and beyond.
Under their ownership, the dealership continued to thrive, with Ray, Lisa, and Bob placing a strong emphasis on being active members of the community. They supported local events, charities, and organizations, recognizing the importance of giving back to the area that had supported their business for so many years.
- 2022
In 2022, after nearly a decade of partnership, Bob Schultz decided to retire, leaving Ray and Lisa Larkin as the sole owners of Gib’s RV Superstore. The Larkins have continued to lead the dealership with the same dedication to quality and community involvement that has always been a hallmark of the business. Today, Gib’s RV Superstore remains a respected and beloved part of the Coos Bay community, known for its wide selection of RVs and its unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction.
